Abstract
Cobalt Feathers is a grimdark fantasy novel that explore the effects of ostracism on the human mind and how group think threatens the introduction of new perspectives. Throughout its chapters. its protagonists face the harsh reality of ostracism based on differing perspectives. They find their voice against those who antagonize them, lose it, and find it again. The novel also dives into how toxic group mentality can be, especially for those who question or outright disagree with the masses. Ostracism resulting from toxic group mentality results in the protagonist feeling unwelcome in his own home, questioning where his true home is, and losing his only friends in trying to figure out who he wants to be. My goal throughout the writing process has been to encourage independent thought; it may come at a price, but that price is on well-worth the expense.
