Abstract
This oral history interview with Rev. Trevor Woolridge was conducted by Travis Davis in Bethel AME Church in the Down the Bay neighborhood of Mobile, Alabama. Rev. Woolridge offers some observations and reflections on gentrification in Mobile, and the foreseeable impacts that economic development projects like the impending downtown Mobile international airport could have on the Black community in Down the Bay. The conversation also extends to the general racial politics of city planning in Mobile, and the historical legacy that those politics have produced in Down the Bay. Rev. Woolridge also relates some of his experiences in politics, and ruminates on possibilities for change and the challenges he sees at hand and ahead. He also emphasizes the power and possibilities for growth within the Black community, and the importance of the community investing in itself.
