Abstract
In this interview, Erane Allen is interviewed by Ryan Morini over Zoom about her memories and reflections from the Down the Bay community. She shares some of her family history relating to Down the Bay, and her own memories of growing up there, including working at the family grocery store. In addition, she shares some other memories of food and foodways in the neighborhood, and some fond memories of her neighbors. Ms. Allen discusses going to school at St. Peter Claver and Most Pure Heart of Mary, before going on to integrate Bishop Toolen High School. After graduating, she went to nursing school at Providence Hospital when they were mandated to desegregate the floors of that hospital as well.
