Abstract

This study analyzed the effects of American foreign policy on the rise of anti-Americanism. The project includes research about the causes of growing animosity against America. Also, a historical background on anti-Americanism is given to provide an explanation of the importance of the research. The issue of anti-Americanism has received a great deal of attention since the September 11 attacks, but adequate suggestions for U.S. policy change have yet to be made. This thesis attempts to identify and address policy issues that have contributed to anti-Americanism, including, but not limited to, globalization, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the concept of Pax-Americana, the United States support for authoritarian regimes, and American military involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. First, the United States has to recognize that its policies are creating anti-Americanism that, in turn, undermines American goals and objectives in the Middle East and the Muslim World. In addition, recommendations to modify, amend, and improve American foreign policy are given.
