Abstract

This is a rare photograph of topologist Ralph Fox given to Dr. Daniel Silver by his friend and collaborator, Wilbur (Red) Whitten. Fox was a pioneer and tireless promoter of knot theory. An edited version of the photograph appears in Milnor, John Willard. The fundamental group. Vol. 2. Publish or Perish, 1995. Ralph Fox's signature can be seen in the upper right corner of the photograph.
