Description
This is a photo of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church near the Clarlton community in Clarke County, AL. The church congregation was established in the late 1800s after the Civil War and the present church building was built in the early 1900s. The church is typical of a traditional African American Baptist Church in rural Alabama. The church's cemetery is the location of the Mt. Nebo Death Mask headstones created by inventor and folk artist Issac "Ike" Nettles.
