In this recording, Hosea London is interviewed by Jada Jones and Ryan Morini in the McCall Library at the University of South Alabama about his experiences in the Excelsior Band. The interview begins with Mr. London talking about growing up in Winter Haven, Florida, his musical training and development, and how he ended up coming to Mobile. He describes his experiences becoming involved in the Excelsior Band and eventually becoming the leader of the band. He also describes the work he and his wife did to incorporate the band and get it registered with the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. London reflects on the role of tradition in the tenure and significance of the band, and how it has become intertwined with the traditions of the city of Mobile.
