Abstract
In this recording, Jerry Pogue is interviewed by Nahfiza Ahmed about race relations and the Civil Rights Movement in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Pogue discusses the class dynamics and divisions within the Movement, and the reasons that he and others organized and mobilized the Neighborhood Organized Workers (NOW). He also mentions some of the unsung heroes of NOW, such as Dorothy Parker Williams. Mr. Pogue describes some of the direct action tactics of NOW, some of the impacts that NOW had through the process, and the police and FBI surveillance and repression that the group faced.
