The Thigpen Photography Collection is a large and diverse assortment of original photographic images produced for clients in and around Mobile, Alabama, over seven decades from 1947 to 2020. Totaling approximately 1.575 million images, the photographs were made and archived by Thigpen Photography, Inc., one of the South’s leading commercial photography studios, under the ownership and direction of founder Roy Thigpen and his son, Alec Thigpen. Alec Thigpen and Karen Burton gifted the complete collection to the Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library in May 2021.
