Abstract
In this interview, Hazel Fournier is interviewed by Kern Jackson at her home in Mobile, Alabama. Ms. Fournier describes her experiences growing up in the Down the Bay neighborhood, and some of her family history. She describes the landscape and character, the cultural and social dynamics of Down the Bay. Ms. Fournier also describes some of her experiences as one of the only two Black truant officers in Mobile County. She also offers memories, histories, and reflections of the dynamics of race and racism in Mobile, and discusses the impacts of urban renewal on Down the Bay and the changes the community has faced over time.
