In this interview, Henry Hobdy is interviewed by Ryan Morini over Zoom about his experiences growing up in the Down the Bay community of Mobile, Alabama. He describes his family history Down the Bay, and his family’s extensive record of US military service. Mr. Hobdy describes the variety of odd jobs and hustles that children Down the Bay would take up to earn additional spending cash, and describes some of the businesses and institutions that he remembers growing up with, as well as the wider community dynamics. He also describes the schools that he attended in his lifetime, including his experiences attending St. John the Evangelist high school in Uniontown, Pennsylvania before returning to Mobile in his senior year and integrating Murphy High School. Mr. Hobdy also shares some of his experiences entering the military after high school, and reflects on the changes and continuities that he has seen in Mobile over his lifetime.
