Abstract
In this interview, Earl Safford Sr. is interviewed by Ryan Morini in the McCall Library on the University of South Alabama campus. Mr. Safford describes his experiences growing up in the Down the Bay community of Mobile, Alabama, and shares some of his family history which includes Down the Bay but also connects out to Monroe County, Alabama. He describes many of the people and places, businesses and landmarks, that he remembers from Down the Bay, and describes the community dynamics as he remembers them. Mr. Safford also talks about the role of music Down the Bay, and his own experiences as a musician in Mobile. And he talks about his career first in the US Army, and later in the US Postal Service, where he also served in the union.
