In this interview, Betty Harris is interviewed by Kern Jackson about her memories of living in the Down the Bay community. She grew up over the bay on the Eastern Shore, but moved to Down the Bay after marriage, and describes the community as she has known it since that time. Ms. Harris also discusses her experiences as the first Black teacher in a formerly all-white school in Foley, Alabama, and then going on to teach at the University of Mobile. She also explains her teaching philosophy and her approach in the classroom.
