Abstract
In this interview, Joyce Chaney is interviewed by Alisha Palmer over Zoom about her memories of the Down the Bay community. Ms. Chaney describes the house and neighborhood she grew up in, and describes family dynamics and wider social and cultural dynamics within that milieu. She shares some of her educational experiences and stories about the businesses Down the Bay, and reflects on race and racism in light of having grown up in a segregated Mobile. Ms. Chaney also offers considerations on the changes that she has seen in the neighborhood over the years, and reflects on the significance of the differences.
