Abstract
In this recording, Jimbo Meador is interviewed by Kern Jackson about his relationship to the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. Mr. Meador spent his childhood exploring the delta and Mobile Bay. He explains that as a white child growing up in segregated Southern society, his main outdoorsman mentors were Black. He also describes the ecological phenomenon known on Alabama’s Eastern Shore as a “jubilee,” and discusses his experiences with them. Much of the interview intertwines Mr. Meador’s life history with his love of the wildlife and ecology of the delta, and the importance of protecting the health of the delta from agricultural runoff and other forms of pollution.
