Abstract
In this recording, Valenia Green is interviewed by Jada Jones, Terrion Thompson, and Ryan Morini at the McCall Library at the University of South Alabama. Ms. Green describes the Down the Bay neighborhood that she grew up in, as well as some of her family history, particularly the role that her grandmother Clara J. Simpson played in the community. Ms. Green also reflects on social and cultural dynamics of the neighborhood, and discusses the interrelationships of food and community as she has come to understand them over time. She also discusses some of her community work, some of her religious views, and current politics in Mobile.
