Abstract
In this recording, Marjorie Kenny Jones is interviewed by Jada Jones and Ryan Morini at her home in Mobile, Alabama. Ms. Jones grew up Down the Bay, and describes the neighborhood and its social and cultural mores and rituals as she knew them, including childhood rites of passage and forms of recreation. She also describes the foodways of the neighborhood, herbal remedies and medicine, and some of the people and places that comprised the neighborhood and the community. Ms. Jones also makes reference to the book that she wrote about the history of Down the Bay; she presented a copy to the McCall Library along with the interview. She discusses the meaning that Down the Bay still holds to the community today, and describes the impacts of urban renewal and the construction of I-10.
