Abstract
In this interview, Barja Wilson is interviewed by Ryan Morini and Sara Coker at the McCall Archive about her memories and reflections regarding the Down the Bay community. Ms. Wilson discusses growing up in the neighborhood, and some of her family history in Mobile, including her grandfather’s roots Down the Bay. She shares some of the connections between her father’s and grandfather’s trades and her own career path. Ms. Wilson also shares memories of food and foodways in the community, including side businesses such as the “candy ladies” in the neighborhood. Her reflections on the changes in the neighborhood are informed by her expertise in architecture and historic preservation.
