Abstract
In this recording, Linda Cooper is interviewed by Sarah Silkey in the University of South Alabama’s McCall Library. The interview begins with Mrs. Cooper discussing her connection to Dilcy Mosley, her mother, who used to work for Mrs. Eloise Pickens Lunsford on the Umbria plantation. Dilcy was named after Mrs. Cooper’s great-grandmother, Dilsey Mosely. She also discusses Dilsey’s son, Johnnie Pickens, who was a businessman in Sawyerville. Mrs. Cooper talks about how her family dealt with and discussed Jim Crow and the Civil Rights era as she grew up. Mrs. Cooper has submitted a heavily revised document that is loosely based on the original verbatim transcript, now termed a “report,” which we have agreed to make available in lieu of a transcript.
